The colors are quite a bit brighter than sargent art and artists loft, and the texture is much better than crayola. Artists loft is michaels brand of art supplies and i usually love them. The color is vibrant and they blend nicely.

They are a bit brittle, though. However, the downside to pentel is that there is a very limited selection of colors. For example, pelikan made it into the top 13, while caran dache luminance was towards the bottom!
